And when it’s in that space, we expect the hero to hit back immediately. It is the kind which we usually see in a block in a commercial cinema. The eerie creepiness is missing, and instead, what we get is a routine drama. Unfortunately, the director fails in delivering the needed. The direction has to be taut, and a gripping and tense atmosphere is needed to be built. When simple sequences aren’t handled well, it only is easy to infer how things would turn out when the real drama kicks in. The same is continued at the crucial restaurant sequence. Everything looks stagey and acted out instead of coming across as natural. The signs of these wrong going are evident within the first few minutes via a mother and son conversation. A movie like Ishq, which has a wafer-thin line, can’t afford weak direction and artificiality. The film begins on a wrong note, and one gets an idea of how things might turn out. The tagline says it is not a love story but rather about a nightmarish time a couple goes through one night. It is a remake of Malayalam movie with the same name. Could it have been better? Yes, for sure! But, the attempt suggests that he is on the right path. He has done decently shown improvement from his debut. Teja Sajja must be applauded for picking such a role so early. Here in Ishq, the entire narrative rests on his act. In Zombie Reddy, he was one of the factors, whereas the unique treatment and genre took care of the proceedings. Teja Sajja, after making an impressive debut with Zombie Reddy is back with a new outing.
Who is the person? What did Siddhu do to him in return? It constitutes the basic plot of the movie. The pleasant road trip turns into a nightmare when a random guy breaks Siddhu and Anu’s privacy. On the occasion of the birthday of Anu, Siddhu plans a night out road trip and make it memorable just before making the engagement official. That's the awesomeness of P C Sreeram.Siddhu ( Teja Sajja) and Anu ( Priyanka Prakash Varrier) are lovers and soon to be married. As the end credits roll, one can see the camera department is larger than the direction department. After a long hiatus I've relived the "first day first show" moments. As every other Telugu movie this one has got some loop holes but they get shadowed with its technical department firing on all cylinders. After listening to lot of noise created by composers in recent times (I am referring to the obvious ones who are making musicals), this comes like a whiff of fresh air. The songs are already on top of the charts, which is evident from the audience doing a karaoke as the songs appear on screen. The icing on the cake is the music and phenomenal BGMs given by Anoop Rubens. Nitin and Nithya play their part perfectly and share an awesome on-screen chemistry.
Coming to the movie, it's a romantic comedy with subtle elements of emotion. I've realized that an ordinary scene becomes an extra-ordinary one when "God of Indian cinematography" P C Sreeram nurtures it to perfection!! The uncanny camera angles, camera churn, patented BLUR effect, vignetting effect with a slight color aberration, giving a golden aura to the set, darkening the scene slightly and focusing the sunlight on the lead pair in a song, shooting a fight scene in pitch dark, appropriate use of steady cams.
